Welcome to my blog! Here I will be discussing the relationship between historical and current events. The overarching theme of the blog is freedom. My professor, Doctor Smith, put this idea into words perfectly. He said:

"Using the story of race relations in America as an organizing narrative, this course is intended to shed light on the larger story of America in surprising ways."

You can expect at least weekly blog posts. Some may focus solely on a significant historical event of the past, others may be more anchored to the present. However, I hope to draw meaningful parallels between these two things, so expect a healthy blend.

Over the next few months I will dive into race relations between black and white people, but I also hope to approach other peoples who's freedom is kept from them, even if they don't make headlines. Groups that come to mind include Native Americans, immigrants, and women

(especially women in the Middle East).
